What Photography Means To Me

 Photography is different for everyone. To me photography is a way to remember parts of life that I never want to forget. If you were to ask people what a good photograph is, you're unlikely to get the same answer twice. Marvin Heiferman used the example of a food stylist and a fashion photographer would both have different idea for a good photograph. Everyone has a different meaning for photography. For some people photography is a hobby, and for some people it is a job. Photography has been used by many different people to help express their thoughts and feelings about different topics. Photography can be used to capture the best moments in life, in a way so no one will forget them.

Edward Honaker

    For this blog I chose Edward Honaker. I find all of his work incredibly interesting, and in some cases a little disturbing. The picture above I like because of the way it almost looks like his head has become pixelated and the pixels were moved around. It gives the idea that while physically he is fine, mentally he is a bit of a mess and all over the place. The picture below I find slightly disturbing because in it he has a hood over his head and a rope around his neck. This gives the idea that he is either about to be killed or is killing himself. These two pictures differ greatly but they are both interesting in how they were done. The picture above was likely edited while the picture below is probably, for the most part, untouched. Edward Honaker's work is a lot these pictures many are interesting and some are also slightly dark in their theme.

Neil Winokur

  My inspiration for the photo essay assignment was Neil Winokur. I love the use of color in his works and how he uses it with his subjects. His work is simple but he manages to make it look interesting, which is something I admire about his photos. I chose to take objects from around my dorm that I frequently use to have as the subjects of my photos. For many of Winokur's Monochromes he got very close to the subject, and that is something I also tried to do. The image of the banana above is part of Winokur's series titled Monochromes . He also has series where the subject and background do not match in color, which is more similar to what I did. Neil Winokur's use of light and color was exceptional and made his work stand out to me.
